From August 9 to 11, a Youth Leadership Training was held for young people at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Parish of the Catholic Diocese of Kyaingtong, Myanmar.
On the final day of the training, Bishop John Saw Yaw Han encouraged the young people to look to the life and virtues of Saint Clare as an example, reminding them to embrace their daily challenges in order to gain the treasure of Heaven. In this challenging age, he encouraged the youth to be courageous enough to bring about positive change and to cultivate the virtues necessary to become great in the Kingdom of Heaven. He illustrated these teachings through the biblical example of a little child.
The training was organized and led by Fr. Henry Law Gaw, the Youth Director, together with the assisting religious sister and dedicated youth leaders. A total of 63 young people from various small parish communities participated in the training.
During the training, Sr. Elizabeth Su Su Htwe, SFX, shared that young people who aspire to become good leaders must be thoughtful and reflective. She emphasized that everyone has their own unique abilities and that fair and balanced thinking is essential for building harmonious relationships. Rather than striving for things that may be far beyond their abilities, she encouraged the youth to recognize and develop the gifts and abilities they already possess, as this brings them closer to success.
She further explained that knowing oneself, loving oneself, and caring for oneself are important qualities that a good leader should possess.
In addition, the participants were guided on how to respond wisely to the challenges of today’s media environment. They were encouraged to learn how to distinguish and choose reliable and truthful information, while remaining vigilant and avoiding being deceived by misinformation and fake news.
Through these teachings and reflections, the young people were encouraged to respond to the challenges of the present age with knowledge, awareness, and wisdom, and to grow into responsible and capable leaders who can positively contribute to their communities and the Church
